Physical Education

Welcome to Mr. Rebelo's Web Page

My name is Neil Rebelo. I am the physical education teacher here in Melrose at both the Winthrop and Herbert Hoover Elementary Schools. A major goal of the Physical Education program in Melrose is to promote awareness and development of physical fitness, an appreciation and enjoyment for movement activities, and team building skills. This website will provide parents and students with information on the different types of physical education activities the students of Winthrop and Hoover will be participating in on a weekly and yearly basis. Students will also have access to wonderful, informational websites, tailored to students’ interests and questions concerning issues from food and nutrition to body development and fitness.

Physical Education allows all children to experience meaningful and enjoyable movement activities and exploration. Play and physical activity are essential to children’s physical and mental growth and development. A physical education program should provide opportunities for all students to be physically active on a regular basis. The objective is to spark an interest for and enjoyment of physical activity in the following categories: locomotor and nonlocomotor skills, gross motor activities, cooperative games, recreational, and individual or team activities and games.
